Spanish

 Intent

Spanish is the second most widely-spoken language in the world and a language that our children are likely to use and apply in their lives both at local secondary schools and when they go on holiday.  It is important for children to learn other languages as this helps them to think about their wider world and appreciate other cultures which can open up opportunities in their adult life.

We believe strongly that our EYFS and year 1 and 2 curriculum should be focused on the basic knowledge, skills and learning that is most appropriate to their age group and level of cognition and development.

At our school, Spanish begins in Year 3 and then progresses in simple increments throughout KS2.  There is lots of repetition and recap.  Our curriculum is currently in the process of being reviewed and updated.  All classes are currently focused on the basics; including greetings, asking how you are, what my name is, how old I am and where I live.
