Design and Technology

 Intent

At Churchfields, we believe that the best DT teaching fosters and develops pupils’ abilities to use creativity and imagination to design and make products. For our pupils to achieve well in DT, they need to acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on skills from disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. We will equip our pupils with the crucial knowledge needed to be successful in this subject and opportunities to apply this knowledge and develop life-long skills in innovation and problem solving.

The National Curriculum 2014 states why we teach DT in schools: ‘Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens.  Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.  High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.’
